How did you get started in racing?
“I have always loved cars and racing. Sadly nothing about being brought up by a Professor of English in small town USA informed me that it was an option in my life. I had to wait until I bought my first BMW, joined the BMW club and participated in my first driving school to find this out. Since that time, the only limitation on my enthusiasm has been time and money.”

Driving Background:
In the beginning there was autocross. It had a calming effect on my street driving and somewhat curbed my appetite for getting speeding tickets. After graduating from Western, I campaigned several different cars on shoestring budgets. I finally found I was having some success with shoestrings.
1996 brought a regional championship in my class. Auto-x was a lot of fun but it always left me longing for more seat time. So it was time to get my feet wet in some wheel to wheel racing. Later that fall I got my racing license from ProFormance, went home, and started building my car.
With two young babies the venue changed but the shoestring budget remained. The Datsun 510 would be my foil, and vintage would be the forum. Maximum fun per dollar was the idea. Moving the Datsun from the back of the pack to the front was a straightforward affair of $ X time. Curiously someone made an offer on the car I couldn’t refuse. After six seasons of reliable fun saying good-bye to the trusty 510 left me with an empty spot and even more pressing, left me without a ride.
Enter the Formula Ford. Eventually some where along the line I started working on purpose built racecars. Guess what, they make sense (as if a race car could make sense LOL). So this season Vintage FF is going to be the racing medium for me, full frame off resto in progress as I type. Add to the mix a 125 Rotax Max kart. Tons of laps and racing at the Evergreen Raceway X-Plex are on the menu for this season.
Instructor Experience:
Over 1 zillion laps with ProFormance since ’99 plus a multitude of track days with local clubs.

Favorite Track Car: M1 tank (y’all crazy on the track too) or a Porsche GT 1 with a 50mm machine gun on the roof like Rat Patrol and a couple of heat seeking missiles.
Favorite Food: Seafood, New York steak, Thai, Italian….
Favorite Racing Saying: “blah blah blah… then I ran out of talent.”
Comment to Clients: “Don’t run out of talent.”

Driving Background:
Experienced racer initially racing karts as a boy then later moving to motorcycle racing, finally returning to four wheels to race single seaters. For the last twenty years I have raced and rallied many different types of vehicles, Formula cars Formula First, FF and F3 and saloons (sedans) from Mini Coopers to Porsche 911GT3’s, From a Vauxhall Nova Group N rally car to a Ford Escort RS 2000 with 240bhp driving the rear wheels. All fantastic fun, in-fact I have been known to say if it’s got wheels I’ll race it.
Instructor Experience:
Since 1989 when I was asked to try out as an instructor for my local race circuit Oulton Park in Cheshire England . (Oulton is an International former Grand Prix circuit similar to Pacific Raceway in that is incredibly challenging, undulating and fast), I have subsequently instructed at a considerable number of international circuits and venues across the world. While challenging the position is highly rewarding watching students climb the ladder of success, with many of my prodigies having reached the highest pinnacles of motor sport. The most amazing results are achieved when instructors combine their speed and accuracy in piloting these vehicles with the psychology of the human mind. How we learn and take in information, how different we all are in processing it and how satisfying it becomes to see a part of your teaching making a difference to both lap times and car control.

How did you get started in racing?
I was basically brought up on a farm so I cannot remember actually not driving something, starting of course on tractors I soon moved up to the cars at the farm and had an uncle that rallied competitively in the British rally championship. I was always sitting in his car and trying to get it going after kicking me out of it many times he finally gave in and he helped me drive up and down the quiet roads of rural England . I was hooked from then on the noise the speed, it was pretty much all I wanted to do. My other uncle was a marine engineer and he challenged me to get my engineering qualifications so I could utilize this knowledge for racing. After saving up my pocket money and birthday and Christmas money for two years I bought a cheap Kart much to my fathers chagrin (my dad spent 45 years as a paramedic so you can see his predicament) I won a few races and crashed out quite a few times too I seem to remember. Finally motorcycles took over, I raced a Yamaha RD 250 and then became a works Bultaco trials rider representing the Royal Air Force in international Trials. It was a number of years till I got back into cars and only after winning a Ford Find a Driver European competition becoming the English champion. Ford then put some money behind me finding some sponsorship and I raced Formula cars for nearly four years, sporadically racing in the national saloon (sedan) championships which I really enjoyed. Since then I have been fortunate to drive a number of different cars in various race classes from sprints to 24hour events.

Favorite Food: Oh this is easy… An English Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding and spotted dick and custard for my sweet
Favorite Racing Saying: To finish first- at first you have to finish. Be patient the race will come to you if your good enough (Murray Walker former legendary Grand prix commentator)
General comment to ProFormance Clients:
Never be too proud to ask a question, we are all at different levels but still each day acquiring further tools to make us better at what we do and want to achieve. Most people can reach the level of the standard required for competition but not everybody is cut out to be the next Michael Schumacher or Dale Jarret, but the great thing is you never know where you are in the ladder of success until you try. I have sat alongside people of 50 years old who have at that time in their lives never driven competitively and been truly stunned by their raw talent. Something they always wanted to do but never thought they could do achieve it. The instructors at Pacific Raceway under the auspices of Don Kitch Jr are the real deal. All with previous experience with skills honed to provide you with enough information to enjoy each day you drive with us.

You should always have a goal before you enter the track for each session and an overall goal for the day. Using an instructor for even just one session each time you come out to the track for a day to work with you on your goals will help you advance much quicker than you can imagine. Even as a Senior instructor and Veteran race car driver I will use a driving coach to help with goals and to point out the small things I might not notice.

How did you get started racing?”After spending some time with the BMWACA & learning the concepts of car control, one of the other club instructors convinced me to try racing. My only regret is not having tried it 15 years earlier, although if I had, I probably wouldn’t have the money to be doing it today! Absolutely love driving endurance events because they require more prep & planning, as well as strategic driving skill. Actively supporting the growth of Pro3, the BMW based class in ICSCC and one of the largest and most competitive classes on the West Coast. In 2001 I began driving with the Puget Sound Region BMW Car Club. After my introduction to high performance driving, I spent the next five years on track working on my driving skills. 2006 was my first year racing. I completed the novice program in a pro3 car and had a blast. I was completely hooked. The off season was so long! I started my year with the 8 hour of the Cascades Enduro at PIR. I then began the ICSCC season and raced in pro3 and EIP as much as possible. I capped of my 2007 season with the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, which was one of the best experiences of my life. 2008 has more excitement in store. I have jumped into the deep end with the purchase of a pro3 car of my own. My plans for 2008 include every ICSCC race on the schedule, the 8 Hour of the Cascades Enduro and the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
Instructor Experience:

It can be frightening at times, but also very rewarding and there is always something to learn. In 2007 I helped out the Alfa Romeo Car Club with their novice car control clinics out at Bremerton. In 2008 I will be busy instructing for ProFormance, Puget Sound Region BMW CCA, Inland Empire Region BMW CCA, PCA, and the Cascade Sports Car Club.
